What is Tumescent Liposuction?
Tumescent Liposuction starts with local anesthesia using large volumes of saline with lidocaine, a local anesthetic, in combination with epinephrine (adrenaline), which temporarily constricts blood vessels, infiltrated into the fatty tissue. The meaning of the word “tumescent” is swollen and firm. The solution is absorbed in the fat between the skin and muscle layer, creating more space in which to suction the fat out via tiny incisions using cannulas, thin blunt stainless steel tubes, attached to a vacuum device. This technique minimizes the possibility of skin irregularities and leads to skin tightening during the healing process.
Improvement is already seen in the first week after treatment. One session lasts from 1 to 1½ hours. Depending on the size and number of areas treated, it is possible to safely extract up to three liters of fat permanently. The risks associated with general or IV anesthesia are avoided. Pain and bruising are decreased, resulting in a quicker and more pleasant recuperation. Of note, most liposuction surgery in Israel is performed under general anesthesia.

Who is a good candidate?
The age of those who have had SafeLipo is between 18 to 80. A personal consultation is needed to determine if the patient’s goals and expectations are realistic and achievable. Not everyone is suitable.
